Abstract
383,604. Exhaust silencers. BAUMGARTEN, P. R. L. VON, 32, Hagagatan, Stockholm. Feb. 9, 1931, No. 4069. Convention date, March 6, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 7 (ii).] The silencer, which is particularly adapted for motor cycle engines, has a valved inlet whereby the exhaust is allowed to expand in stages. The exhaust pipe 7 is connected to a cylinder 1 which is divided by a cylindrical casing 2 into chambers a, b. A spindle 3 guided by sets of arms 11, 12 carries valves 4, 5 of which 4 may be fixed to the spindle, and 5 adjustable relatively thereto. The valve 4 is adapted to seat alternately on the neck 14 and on the upper end of casing 2. The valves are normally forced to their higher position by a spring 6. When an explosion occurs, the valves are forced downwardly and exhaust gases enter chamber a. When the explosion ceases, the valves rise and the gases from chamber a enter chamber b to be discharged to atmosphere through outlet 15 when valve 5 is again moved downwardly. In a modification, valve 5 is replaced by a perforated partition.
