Abstract

279,113. Will, G. Oct. 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Exhaust silencers comprise a tubular casing a having a reduced portion b for connection to the exhaust pipe, and surrounding a pipe c one end of which coincides with the reduced portion b, the other end passing through the casing and opening directly into the atmosphere, the pipe being provided with slots d. The annular space f between the pipe and casing is divided into a number of chambers by annular discs e on the pipe c. The extreme left-hand disc bears against the end of the casing and serves to locate the pipe c while the extreme right-hand disc serves as an abutment for a spring g which presses also against a cap h secured to the casing by a bayonet joint i. It is stated that the gases pass, unobstructed, through the pipe c, whilst the sound enters the chamber formed by the discs and is silenced. The silencer can be easily dismantled for cleaning by removing the cap h.
