Abstract

382,854. Universal joints. MEYF ARTH, G. and SOC. ANON. DES ATELIERS DE SECHERON, Avenue Blanc, Secheron, Geneva, Switzerland. March 9, 1932, No. 7092. Convention date, March 12, 1931. [Class 80 (ii).] A universally-flexible coupling for driving railway-vehicle wheels comprises flat spiral springs 3 having their ends connected respecrively to housings 1 and carriers 4, rigidly secured to the gear-wheel 2 and track-wheel 5 respectively, or vice versa, the torque acting along the coiling axes of the springs. The spring loading is thus only slightly increased by relative axial motion of the wheels 2, 5 and, as regards certain of the springs, by relative vertical motion. The springs 3 are preferably of diminishing section inwardly. The coupling may be used at both ends of the quill shaft 9 and the axle 8 may also be hollow.
