[Class 103 (i).] In an automatically-adjustable brake-rod working under compression comprising two aligned rods 1a, 4a, the rod 1a having a screwthread or circular rack 2 engaged by two sets of jaws 5, 12, each confined between a pair of coned rings 7a, 8a and 13a, 15a, the ring 7a being fixed to the rod 4a by a socket 3a, the rod 1a is displaced relatively to the jaws 12 when the ring 15a abuts a stop 21 and the jaws 5 are similarly displaced on release of the brake by the expansion of a compression spring 26, thereby lengthening the brake rod. Each set of jaws comprises four members disposed in cruciform relation around the screw 2. Specification 365,885 is referred to.
