Abstract
634,816. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Aug. 13, 1947, No. 22475. [Class 103 (i)] In a wheel and disc brake assembly comprising outer and inner annular brake discs, 3 and 4 respectively, capable of axial but non-rotational displacement relative to the wheel, one or more groups of friction elements 20, 21, 26 partially covering the friction surfaces of said discs 3 and 4, and torque-resisting members 31 on each side of each group of friction elements, the said torque-resisting members 31 extend axially between the outer and inner sets of discs 3 and 4 from a non- rotatable support-member 9 and the friction elements 20, 21, 26 are supported by but axially displaceable relative to them. The torque is transferred from the friction elements by means of grooves 30 thereon engaging the sides 34 of the torque-resisting members 31, this arrangement avoiding the usual weakening of the elements by passing torque rods through holes therein. The axially-extending studs 32 of the members 31 may be braced by a ring 37 at their ends remote from the fixed supportmember 9.
