Abstract

724,904. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. W. Dec. 11, 1953 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 681/53. Class 103 (1). In a brake disc, more particularly for aircraft disc brakes, comprising a plurality of concentric relatively non-rotatable annuli, each annulus is axially slidable up to a predetermined limit to overcome the effects of distortion due to the heat generated on braking. As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, a brake disc for an aircraft disc brake comprises three concentric annuli 1, 2 and 3 the outer annulus 3 being provided with dogs 4 to engage an associated wheel (not shown) thus allowing axial movement' of the brake disc. A small gap is provided between adjacent annuli and rivets 7 are fitted in each associated pair of grooves 6 formed on adjacent faces of the annuli, the grooves being countersunk to receive the head 8 and tail 9 of each rivet. A small clearance is provided between either the head 8 or the flattened tail 9 of the rivet 7 and the base of its associated countersunk portion, whereby one annulus can slide relatively to the other. The outer annulus is driven by the wheel through its driving dogs, the intermediate annulus being driven from the outer annulus by the rivets and the inner annulus being similarly driven by the intermediate annulus; the three annuli rotating as one.
