Abstract

543,953. Brakes for coaster hubs &c. PERRY & CO., Ltd., and URRY, W. C. Jan. 16, 1941, No. 614. Addition to 532,740. [Class 136 (ii)] In internally-expanding brakes for cycles and more particularly for coaster hubs for motor-driven pedal cycles, having two or more expansible braking sleeves or bands 1, 2, disposed in axial alignment, the opposed ends of adjacent sleeves being expanded into braking contact with an outer hub 3 by coned or inclined parts of a slidable intermediate or separating member 5, as described in the parent Specification, the member 5, which is keyed to one or both of the sleeves, is non-rotatably mounted on a fixed spindle 4. In the form shown the member 5 is mounted on a square-sectioned part of the spindle 4, which screws into a fixed operating cone 6. A lug 10 on the member 5 engages a recess in the sleeve 2 and prevents the sleeve from turning. A recess in the sleeve 1 is similarly engaged by a lug 10 on the cone 6. The braking strain is thus divided between the two lugs.
