429,899. Transmitting-mechanism for brakes. WESCHKE, (geb. SOMMER), H., 32, Sternstrasse, Magdeburg, Germany. Jan. 31, 1935, No. 3164. [Class 103 (i)] Equalizing or compensating mechanism for operating the four wheel brakes of vehicles comprises racks k, l, connected one to the front and the other to the rear pair of brakes and engaging a pinion f rigidly connected to a pinion e with which co-operates a rack i connected to the pedal h. As shown the pinions are guided by a sliding block c in which the pinion shaft is journalled and having grooves to receive ribs b on the casing a or a disc running in grooves in the casing may be substituted for the block, or the shaft of the pinions may project through slots in the casing. The ratio of the forces applied to the racks k, l is dependent upon the ratio of the diameters of the pinions e, f, thus, if the pinion e has twice the diameter of pinion f, the force applied to rack l is twice that applied to rack k. The racks k, l, may be connected each to the pair of brakes by a floating bar or equivalent so that the forces applied to the pair are equalized.
