Abstract

1,072,259. Brake discs. GIRLING Ltd. July 23, 1964, No. 46209/66. Divided out of 1,009,280. Heading F2E. A brake disc comprises a radial web 11 integrally connecting a radially extending brake flange 10 to one end of an axially extending bell member 12, which is adapted to be secured to a wheel or other rotatable member at its other end 13, wherein the central plane b of the webs is offset axially from the central plane a of the flange in a direction away from said other end of the bell member and wherein the thickness of the web is less than that of the flange. A specific dimensioned example of such a disc is given in the Specification. The purpose of the offset web is to eliminate cone distortion induced by heat on brake application to which conventional brake discs, such as that illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), are prone to.
