Abstract
1,080,640. Disc brakes. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. March 22, 1966, No. 12685/66. Heading F2E. An annular disc 13, for engagement by a pad or pads of a disc brake assembly (not shown) for a rail vehicle, is of cast iron and has cast into its inner periphery spokes 11 which are integral with and extend substantially tangentially from an annular support body 7 of cast steel, which is welded or glued to a hub portion 1 of a wheel of the rail vehicle at one or both sides of its central web 2. The hub portion may be cylindrical (Fig. 2, not shown) or conical (Fig. 3, not shown). A relatively high resistance to axial deflection of the disc under the pressure of the brake-applying means on the disc 13 is achieved by making the spokes of rectangular section with the widest dimension arranged in the axial direction, while elastic deformation of the spokes can occur in the radial direction should the heat generated by the pads cause radial movement of the disc 13. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,032,923.
