Abstract
Acid diphenylguanidine oxalate and tartrate are prepared by adding diphenylguanidine to a boiling aqueous solution of the acid in equimolecular proportions. The acid phthalate is prepared by refluxing equimolecular proportions of phthalic acid and diphenylguanidine. Using di-o-tolylguanidine the corresponding salt is obtained.ALSO:The vulcanization of rubber and the like is accelerated, and the tendency to scorch reduced by the addition to the mix of a 2-mercaptoarylene thiazole in conjunction with the acid salt of a diarylguanidine with a polybasic carboxylic acid, preferably in equimolecular proportions. The 2-mercaptoarylene thiazole confers good ageing properties on the vulcanized material. It is stated that the use of the two above classes of compounds produces the Two Accelerator Effect, with resulting high tensile strengths of the product. Diarylguanidines mentioned are Diphenyland Di-o-tolyl-guanidine. Acids mentioned are oxalic, malonic, tartaric, citric, and phthalic acids. Directions are given for the preparation of acid diphenylguanidine oxalate, acid diphenylguanidine tartarate, and acid diphenylguanidine phthalate. Examples are given showing the effects of the addition to the mix of the above mixed accelerator and of mixtures of 2-mercaptoarylene thiazoles diphenylguanidine and a free dicarboxylic acid. In the latter case there was a distinct tendency to scorch which was absent in the former case. Acid Diphenylguanidine oxalate and tartarate are prepared by adding diphenylguanidine to a boiling aqueous solution of the acid, in equimolecular proportions. The acid phthalate is prepared by boiling under reflux for half an hour equimolecular proportions of phthalic acid and diphenylguanidine. If di-o-tolyl guanidine is substituted for diphenylguanidine, the corresponding salt is obtained.
