Abstract
A printing surface has a multi-colour printing layer formed of a plastic composition comprising a synthetic nitrile rubber blended with a polyvinyl compound and a pigment. The synthetic nitrile rubber may be a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile and the polyvinyl compound may be a polyvinyl chloride, the composition containing 25-60 parts of the synthetic nitrile rubber for every 100 parts by weight of the mixture thereof with polyvinyl chloride. For every 100 parts by weight of this mixture the plastic composition includes 1-15 parts by weight of a softener, e.g. petroleum jelly or stearic acid, 50-75 parts by weight of pigment and filter, e.g. titanium dioxide or gas black, and barytes, whiting or china clay, and 40-65 parts by weight of a high boiling liquid solvent, e.g. a liquid ketone solvent, which acts as a temporary softener. In order that the composition may be plastic, the nitrile rubber and polyvinyl compound are blended together to form a composition in which they form separate intimately mixed phases, preferably by mixing latices of the nitrile rubber and of the polyvinyl compound to produce a mixed latex containing the two materials dispersed therein, and then coprecipitating the materials from the mixed latex, e.g. by the addition of an acid or other known coagulant and washing and drying the coagulum.
