Abstract

A composition comprises a vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer, e.g. with styrene, a softening agent such as dioctyl phthalate, and an oily condensation product having a boiling range of 200 DEG C. to 260 DEG C. at a pressure of 200 millimetres (mercury gauge) which has been prepared from a chlorinated cycloparaffinic hydrocarbon of at least ten carbon atoms and a mononuclear aromatic hydrocarbon such as benzene by the Friedel-Crafts synthesis, the ratio of oily condensation product to softening agent not exceeding 1:1. Other ingredients which may be present include heavy spar, red iron oxide, cork meal, wood meal and ochre. The composition may be gelled by heating to 170 DEG C. and used to produce floor or wall coverings or as a leather substitute.
