Abstract
Chlorinated rubber of high chlorine content (at least 60 per cent) is incorporated with linoleum cement in the absence of added volatile solvents to produce plastic masses suitable for floor coverings, the proportion of chlorinated rubber to linoleum cement lying between 1 : 2 and 2 : 1 parts by weight. Plasticizer may be added, in amount not exceeding 55 per cent calculated on the weight of the chlorinated rubber. Fillers, e.g. fibres, may also be incorporated. The incorporation is carried out at a raised temperature, e.g. on hot rolls or in a Banbury mixer. In an example the following mix is used: 8 parts of ground chlorinated rubber (63 per cent chlorine), 14 parts of linoleum cement (80 per cent linoxyn), 10 parts of cork dust and 6 parts of yellow ochre.
