Abstract

A butadiene-styrene rubber comprises a coagulated mixture of (a) a latex of a butadiene-styrene rubber having a styrene content of from 5 to 45% and a Mooney viscosity (ML1+4, 100 DEG C.) of from 40 to 150, and (b) a latex of a liquid butadiene-styrene copolymer having a styrene content of from 5 to 45% which is insoluble in a mixed solvent of 70% by volume ethanol and 30% by volume toluene but soluble in a mixed solvent of 35% by volume ethanol and 65% by volume toluene, there being present from 10 to 100 parts of (b) per 100 parts (a). The latex mixture may be prepared by mixing (a) and (b) or by a two-step polymerization in which (a) is predominantly produced in a first step and (b) in a second step. The product may be mixed with the usual compounding ingredients and vulcanized.
