Abstract

A polymer blend comprises from 50 to 98 parts of anhydrously polymerized rubbery 1-4 polybutadiene and from 2 to 50 parts of a 1-4 configuration liquid diene polymer and/or a vulcanisate therefor. The rubbery polymer may be prepared by use of an Alfin catalyst, an organo-lithium catalyst, a lithium catalyst, a chromium oxide catalyst or a Ziegler catalyst and may have an ML-4, at 100 DEG C., of from 30 to 100, as well at as least 85% cis-1-4 configuration. The liquid diene polymer may have an average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 20,000 and may be a polymer of butadiene or a copolymer thereof with an aromatic hydrocarbon monomer containing a single vinyl group. The vulcanisate may be prepared by vulcanising the liquid diene polymer with an element or compound from Group VIALPHA, e.g. sulphur in the presence of a solvent, a reinforcing filler, e.g. carbon black, and a processing oil.
