Abstract
380,847. Ball and roller bearings. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, London. -(Saccaggic, P. C. ; El Chalet, Remedios de Escalada, Ferrocarril del Sud, Buenos Aires.) June 26, 1931, No. 18549. [Class 12 (i).] A vehicle axle bearing having a ball or roller bearing in which the outer race ring is constrained to remain in the same plane as the inner race ring has means between the load and the bearing for elevating the load directly the axle moves laterally in either direction in relation to the load. In Fig. 1 the load is transmitted from the axle-box m to the roller bearing housing k through a cam-like bar n having downwardly extending end projections n<1> seating in recesses in the housing k and cylindrical lobes n<2> received in seatings in a shoe p. Relative axial movement between the axle a and the box m causes tilting of the bar n and lifting of the box m. The housing k may be omitted, the projections n<1> being seated on the outer race ring. In a modification the bearing casing k<10>, Figs. 6 and 7, has a cross-bar u pivoted in swinging ,links v which at their lower ends are pivoted to a bar w carried by the axle-box m. In another modification the cross-bar u is seated directly on a pivot on the outer race ring, the casing k<10> being omitted.
