Abstract

354,486. Vehicle-axle bearings. MALEY, A. W., 4, Grosvenor Road, and TAUNTON, E. M., 11, Wilton Road, both in Handsworth, Birmingham. June 23, 1930, No. 19098. [Class 12 (i).] End thrust of a vehicle axle 2 having a plain bearing 3 is taken up by a thrust ball bearing. The inner race 4 of the ball bearing is fixed to the axle 2 and the outer race 7 is housed in a two-part steel cage 8 capable of sliding vertically in grooves in the axle-box 1. The inner end of the box 1 is closed by a dust-collar consisting of a collar 10 fitted on the shaft and containing a felt ring 11 and washer 13 pressed against the axle-box by a spring 12.
