Abstract
In a process for improving the physical characters of metals in which fluctuations in their physical properties such as hardness or ductility occur after a primary thermal, mechanical, or magnetic treatment, the metals are subjected, at a selected phase of such fluctuations, to a secondary stabilizing magnetic treatment, e.g. the application of a stationary or rotating magnetic field or a demagnetizing process. If the fluctuations produced by the primary treatment have damped out, they are reproduced in the metals by rotating them in a strong magnetic field. The primary mechanical treatment may be that described in Specification 301,762, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working], and the primary magnetic treatment that described in Specification 338,511, [Class 72, Iron &c.]. A second treatment may be applied to the metal at a selective phase of the new fluctuations set up by the first stabilizing treatment.
