Abstract

An alloy steel comprises 16-22 per cent of chromium, 5-14 per cent of manganese, 0,25-2 per cent of copper, not more than 0,12 per cent of carbon, and 0,2-1 per cent of niobium. The steel, which may be used for fusion welded articles, may be quenched from above 1050 DEG C. In comparative examples, a steel according to the invention, a steel according to the parent Specification and a steel having 1-12 per cent of niobium are quenched from 1150 DEG C., held for one month at 300 DEG C. or for two weeks at 400 DEG C. and air cooled.
