Abstract

380,445. Valve amplifying circuits. MACKENZIE, W. B. and ALDER, L. S. B., H.M. Signal School, Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth. June 13, 1931, No. 17238. [Class 40 (v).] The anode-cathode circuit of the detector valve 2 is branched by a neon lamp 7 in series with a biasing resistance 8 for the grid of the previous screen-grid amplifier 1. The potential across the neon lamp is adjusted to exceed the striking point. Increase in signal strength then automatically increases the negative potential applied to the grid of the amplifier 1 from the tapping point 10, and so maintains a constant output. The limiting action serves to prevent overloading by extraneous interference, and also shortens the duration of atmospherics and disturbances. Specification 283,120, [Class 40 (v), Wireless signalling &c.], is referred to.
