380,230. Compound sheet materials ; inlaid linoleum. TOONE, H. B. S. and TOONE, H. S., Dulwich Road Mills, Radford, Nottingham. Aug. 20, 1931, No. 23432. [Class 140.] Floor covering material consists of one or more layers of wood veneer A, D, Fig. 4, and a base B of cork composition, secured together by means of a layer or layers C, E of indiarubber forming an elastic cushion between the layers. When two layers of wood veneer A, D are used, the grain of one layer is disposed at an angle, preferably a right-angle, to that of the other, and the two layers are secured by a layer of rubber E. Rubber latex is preferably used to form the layers of rubber, the opposed faces of the veneer and backing being coated with latex and pressed together when the latex has set. Vulcanizing agents may be added to the latex, and the thickness of the rubber layer may be increased by applying a number of coats of latex, each being allowed to set. Inlaid designs, such as that shown in Fig. 5, may be produced by using pieces of veneer cut to shape for the upper layer. The material is flexible and can be rolled up.
