379,923. Cathode-ray tubes ; television. ARDENNE, M. VON, 19, Jungfernstieg, Lichterfelde, Berlin. Nov. 23, 1931, No. 32359. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1930. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] In Braun tubes in which the intensity of the light spot is controlled, particularly for television, by a cylinder 4 around the cathode 2 or by a grid or other control, the speed of the electrons is maintained constant, as the intensity is varied, by varying the effective part of the potential of the anode supply source 12 by means such as a resistance 13 in the anode circuit. The potential on the anode 3 fluctuates in phase-opposition to the intensity changes ; at weak intensities and low potentials on the control 4 tending to cause reduced speed of the electrons, the anode current is reduced and the anode voltage increased to accelerate the electrons. The resistance 13 may be 100,000 ohms and is adjusted to give a sharp image when the deflected cathode-ray is subject to the control 4.
