Abstract

378,481. Road vehicle frames. LJUNGSTRÍM, B., 83, Linnegatan, Stockholm. April 14, 1931, No. 11082. Convention date, March 5. [Class 108 (ii).] The frame of a motor vehicle is constructed with two longitudinal frame members 3, Figs. 1 and 2, spaced wide apart and bent upwards in the shape of an arch over the wheels which are carried independently by levers 13 mounted on transverse axes 14. The horizontal part of each frame member is at or below the level of the wheel axles. The frames are of channel section opening inwards but may be closed in part where cross members are attached. The channels enclose suspension springs 16 secured to the axes 14 and bearing on the lower flanges. A horizontal floor extends continuously from front to rear including the space between the wheels. Wheel casings 7 of sheet metal fill up the gaps between the floor and the arched parts of the side frames and leave sufficient room for the movement of the wheels. In a modification having two pairs of rear wheels, two wheels on each side may be arranged under one arch or two arches may be provided.
