[Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] In a vehicle suspension system as shown in Figs. 2, 3; and 5, in which each wheel is mounted independently on the end of a lever 8, 9 pivoted in transverse bearings 10, 11, quarter-elliptic springs 16 clamped to the arms 14, 11 project forwardly or rearwardly into the channel or similar side frames 1. The ends of the side frames 1 may be made deeper, to accommodate the pivot bearings and the connections between the springs and the shafts. The longest leaf may roll into contact with the lower flange of the frame so as to vary the effective length of the spring, or a shaped bearing member may be interposed between the spring and the frame. Each of the leaves and the sides of the bracket 14 may be recessed as shown at 27, Fig. 8, to receive the securing bolts 19 and thus prevent movement of the leaves. A U-bolt 20, Fig. 5, encircling the leaves is also employed. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, a quarterelliptic spring 16 extends upwards into a channel-shaped extension of the side frames 1 over the wheels.
