378,426. Change-speed gearing. LJUNGSTRÍM, B., 83, Linnegatan, Stockholm. May 9, 1931, No. 13782. Convention date, March 28. [Class 80 (ii).] Change-speed gearing for vehicles comprises a group of connected gears 7, 8, 9 loose on a driving-shaft 2 and adapted to be driven therefrom through a one-way clutch 11 which can be locked, as when the engine is to be used for braking, by a jaw clutch 29. The gears 7, 8, 9 mesh constantly with gears 16, 17, 18 separately loose on a driven shaft 3 and adapted to be selectively clutched thereto for the higher forward speeds. The drives for lowest forward speed and reverse are through gear teeth 10, 14 cut on the shaft 2, which are thus independent of the one-way clutch. First speed and reverse are effected by sliding a gear 27 to left and right to change mesh by way of a striker 26. Second speed is effected by sliding the gear 18 into engagement with a jaw clutch 23 by way of a striker 25. To effect third and fourth speeds, the gears 17, 16 are slid to right and left to engage clutches 22, 21 by way of a striker 24. The strikers 24, 25, 26 are operated by a selector control 37. A control 31 for the clutch 29 is at the other side of the gear box.
