[Class 142 (iii).] Checking shuttles and pickers; changebox motions checking picking sticks.- In change - box looms, a single brake tongue or swell 16, Figs. 1 and 4, is mounted on the lay independently of the shuttle boxes and co-operates with the particular compartment that is moved into picking position. The swell pivoted at 17 on the lay has an inclined surface 41 adapted to be engaged to remove the pressure on the shuttle during shuttle change by a surface 40 on a spring-controlled bell-crank lever 39, 36 on the lay. A cam surface 37 on the part 36 serves as a stop to limit the outward movement of the picking stick. When the shuttle box is being changed, one or both rollers 26, 27 on levers 28, 29 are moved out of notches in crank discs 22, 23 thereby depressing a rod 35 pivoted to the bell-crank lever 39, 36. The lever is thus turned and causes the surfaces 40, 41 to be engaged to remove the pressure of the swell, and, at the same time, allowing the picker 14 to move out of contact with the shuttle tip 21. The swell may be arranged at the rear side of the shuttle-boxes, and the invention may be applied to looms having rotary shuttle-boxes.
