Picking-motions.-Relates to picking-motions of the type wherein reciprocating pickers carrying resilient blocks 22 for striking the shuttle slide along a spindle or rod mounted below the shuttle box and are operated by cam-controlled lever mechanism, the use of a picking stick or shaft being obviated. A cam 11 on a countershaft 12 or on the usual bottom shaft operates a two-armed lever 7, 8 which operates a second lever 14 against the action of a spring 17. The lever 14 operates a third lever 18, which has forks embracing pins &c. 19 on the picker or is connected thereto by a pin and slot connection. The picker moves in a guideway 23. To allow the lever 18 to move to and fro with the lay, its connection with the lever 14 is of a universal joint nature. The lever 18 is slotted and fits in a groove or channel in a disc member 28, which is adjustably connected by a bolt 29 to a disc member on a sleeve piece 26 embracing the lever 14 and interposed between the two arms 24 of a yoke or forked piece pivoted at 15 on a bracket 16. The opposing faces of the discs are formed with ratchet-like teeth. By slackening the bolt 29 the lever 28 may be adjusted in the channel of the disc 28 and this channelled disc may be turned if required about its axis relatively to the other disc. According to the Provisional Specification, the pickers may be guided by rollers or bowls threon travelling in a channel guideway under the respective shuttle box or the pickers may move along spindles &c. Also, the slotted upper ends of the third levers may be connected with the picker bowls. Checking shuttles and pickers.-Each of the levers 14 may, when depressed contact with a blade spring acting as a brake. The shuttle and picker are braked by swells 45<1>, 45 acted upon by fingers 39<1>, 39 fast to the stop rod in case of a fast reed loom, or to a shaft 40 in the case of a loose reed loom. This shaft carries an arm 42 provided with a bowl 43 acted upon by a spring 44 furnished with a bight or hollow. When the bowl moves into the bight &c., the shuttle and picker are released from pressure by the respective swells.
