(01. 139-146) The present invention pertains to the shuttle picking mechanism of fly shuttle looms and. more particularly relates to manually operable means for ejecting the shuttle from the shuttle box. Looms of the type-to which my invention pertains commonly includea lay having a shuttle boxat each end, a shuttle, and loom actuated shuttle picking mechanism at each end of the lay for picking the shuttle back and forth along the lay.. Ordinarily in such looms upon the stoppage thereof the shuttle is housed in one of the shuttle boxes at one end of the loom. To withdraw the shuttle from the shuttle box when the loom is stopped is a difficult task, and to pick theshuttle along the lay to the other shuttle box is even more difficult due tothe warp threads of the shed. The loom operator, of course, may take hold of the picker stick by hand and. eject the shuttle from the shuttle box or even pick the shuttle across thelay, however this is :an extremely difficult and unsatisfactory method. a Y
The principal object of the present. invention is to provide in a fly shuttle loom having a shuttle box and a shuttle therein, picking mechanism including a support and a picker stick mounted thereon for movement transversely of the loom, loom actuated means connected to the picker stick for moving same, means carried by the picker stick and spaced from the aforementioned connection of the picker stick and manually operable means for engaging the means carried by the picker stick for moving the picker stick inwardly of the loom and ejecting the shuttle from the shuttle box.
The foregoing and other objects of the invention are accomplished in the construction illustrated on the accompanying drawing, of which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one end of a loom having my invention applied thereto; and
Fig. 2 is a view to a larger scale taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The mechanism shown on the drawing is applied to a fly shuttle loom which is generally of conventional construction and the drawing accordingly shows only a part of a loom side and such parts of the shuttle picking mechanism as is necessary to an understanding of the present invention. It will be understood that the loom side shown is the right hand side of the loom and that the shuttle picking mechanism shown is the right hand shuttle picking mechanism, there being another shuttle picking mechanism, not shown, at the other side of the loom.
The structure shown on the drawing includes a right hand loom side I, and a lay 2 having a shuttle box 3 at one end for receiving the shuttle 4. The shuttle .4 is picked back and forth along the lay. The mechanism for picking-the shuttle mayinclude a supporter parallel 5 fixed to the lay rocker shaft 6 to rock therewith and a parallelor-rocker' shoe 1 having a picker stick 8 fixed thereto. The parallel shoe 1 is mounted on the parallel 5 for rocking movement thereon. The upper-end of picker stick 8 carriers a pickers :9' for engagementwiththe shuttle 4. The picker stick 8 maybe actuate'dby means such'as the lug strap 10 connected to the picker stick 8 and pick arm ll. Pick arm'll is actuated by a pick cam and camishaft not shown. Lug strap I0 moves the picker stick 8 inwardly of the loom, or to the left as seen on Fig. 1, to engage the shuttle and pick .it across the lay. Means are provided such as band I 2, connected to the lower end of the picker stick S'andto spring actuated drum 13, to returnthe picker stick outwardly as to the .right as seen on Fig. l. I
It' should be understood that the picking mechanisms Y above described are merely illustrative of a type of picking mechanism to which my inventionis applicable, they being of the present invention only to theextent that they comprise parts that may be used aselements in the combination defined in-the appended claims.
To eject the shuttle from the shuttle box when the loom is stopped I provide means such as a lever I4 pivotally connected to the loom frame I by means of a bracket l5 fixed to the loom frame I. Lever i4 extends forwardly from its point of attachment to the loom side and at its forward end is provided with an inturned projection l6 which acts as a foot treadle for moving said lever downwardly about its pivot. A guide I! is secured to the loom frame I and guides the lever in its movement. A spring I8 is secured to the lever adjacent its forward free end and holds the lever up against the guide ll. Lever I4 is moved downwardly against the pull of spring [8 and the spring serves to return the lever to its raised position. The lever 14 has an outwardly extending arm [9 intermediate its ends. The arm I9 is in longitudinal alignment with the parallel shoe 1 and projects outwardly over the inner end of the parallel shoe. The arm I9 is provided at its outer end with a cam surface 20 for engagement with the inner end 2| of the parallel shoe 1. Thus it is obvious that pressing downwardly upon lever I4 brings the arm l9 into contact with the inner end 2| of the parallel shoe 1 and. the picker stick 8 is moved inwardly toward the loom bringing the picker 9 into contact with the shuttle 4, ejecting the shuttle from the shuttle box 3. Immediately upon removal of the force pressing lever l4 downwardly, spring l8 raises the lever upwardly to inoperative position and the band l2 and spring actuated drum l3 returns the picker stick to the normal position.
Thus it is seen that I have provided simple but novel means for ejecting a shuttle from the shuttle box when the loom is stopped. Having thus fully disclosed the preferred embodiment of my invention, I claim:
1. In a fly shuttle loom having shuttle picking mechanism including a picker stick, a rocker shoe fixedly attached thereto, a parallel-on which said shoe rocks and loom actuatd mechahisin for moving said picker stick, the combination with said picking mechanism of manually operable separate means for actuating said picking mechanism while the loom is not in normal operation, said manual means comprising normally inoperative means manually movable'to press upon said rocker shoe to actuate said picker stick.
2. 'In a shuttle picking mechanism for fly shuttle looms having a shuttle box and a shuttle, a support, a rocker shoe rocking on said support, a picker stick carried by said rocker shoe, loom actua'ted means for actuating said rocker shoe and manually operable separate means for actuating said rocker shoe while the loom is not in normal operation, said manually operable means comprising a lever pivotally mounted on said loom and movable into engagement with saidrocker shoe whereby said shoe is actuated, and resilient means normally holding said lever in inoperativ position.
3. In a shuttle picking mechanism for a loom, the combination of a support, a rocker shoe mounted on said support, a picker stick fixedly attached to said rocker shoe to rock therewith,
loom actuated means for rocking said rocker shoe and picker stick and manually operable means for rocking said rocker shoe and picker stick in one direction, said manually operable means including a lever pivotedat one end to the loom frame andhaving a foot treadle at the other end, means intermediate the ends of said lever for engaging the inner end of said rocker shoe whereby upon the downward movement of said lever said rocker shoe and picker stick will be moved inwardly of said loom, resilient means for holding said lever in inoperative position, and means for guiding said lever in its movement.
4. In a fly shuttle loom having a shuttle box and a shuttle, picking mechanism including a rocker shoe, a picker stick carried by said rocker shoe, a parallel on which said shoe rocks and loom actuated means for actuating said picking mechanism, manually operable means for rocking said picking mechanism, said manually operable means comprising a lever pivotally connected to said loom and having an integral laterally'projecting lug thereon extending over the inner :end of said rocker shoe, whereby upon downward movement of said lever, said lug presses downwardly on said shoe thereby actuating said picker stick, and resilient means holding said' lever in inoperative position.
,5. In a fly shuttle loom having a shuttle box and a shuttle, picking mechanism including a support and a picker stick mounted thereon for movement transversely of the loom, loom actuated means includingalug strap for moving said picker'stick, a member carried by said .picker stick and spaced from said lug strapra manually operated lever pivotally connected to the loom and inoperative during normal operation of the loom and movable from inoperative to operative position, and means carried by said lever for engaging vsaid member to thereby move .said picker stick inwardly of the loom and eject the shuttle when said lever is moved from inoperative to ope'rative position.
.6. Ina ifly shuttle loom having a shuttle box and a shuttle, .picking mechanism including a support and a picker stick mounted thereon .for movement transversely of the loom, loom actuated means including a lug strap .for moving said picker stick, a member carried by said picker stick and spaced from said lug strap, a manually operated lever pivotally connected to the .loom and movable from inoperative to operative position, means carried by said lever .for engaging said member to :thereby move said picker stick inwardly of the loom and eject the shuttle when said lever is movedfrom inoperative to operative position, and resilient means for holding said lever in inoperative position.
