Abstract

179,363. Hacking, H., Ashworth, F., and Taylor, W. March 2, 1921. Loose-reed motions. -The duck-bill and heater are dispensed with, and a bowl a' on an arm A on the stop-rod a is adapted to travel over another bowl B so arranged as normally to offer a yielding resistance to the bowl a<1>, which automatically b e - comes positive to hold the reed fast at the beat up, but presents no material resistance to the movement of the reed when the shuttle is trapped in the shed. The bowl B is mounted on a lever b held in position against a stop b<2> by a spring b<3>. In the position of beat-up shown, the axes of the bowls and the pivot of the lever b are in alignment. When the shuttle is trapped, the bowl a<1> engages the side of the bowl B and turns the lever b about it.s pivot. The lever b may be replaced by a two-armed lever, either arm of which is controlled by a weight; or the lever may be replaced by any spring or gravity-controlled movable member adapted to exert a yielding and a positive resistance to the reed.
