Stop-motions, shuttle.-The arms, tongues, or daggers 5 on the stop rod 4 are normally retained in raised positions, and only fall into position tc engage the frog when the shuttle does not work properly. The arms are raised by means of rollers 11 on spring-controlled levers 9 pivoted on arms 8 on the lay swords 3. These levers 9 contact with fixed stops 13, but as the lay advances, move towards the swords as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. If the shuttle is properly boxed as shown in Fig. 4, it actuates a feeler 6 and 'bell-crank lever 7, which is thus turned into position to stop the movement of the corresponding lever 9 towards the sword before the lever 9 has moved sufficiently to allow the corresponding arm 5 to fall. If, as shown in Fig. 3, the shuttle does not actuate the feeler 6, the lever 9 moves so far towards the lay, as this advances, that it allows the arm 5 to drop and engage the spring loaded frog 2. Arms 5 at each side of the bar are fixed to the shaft 4 and they as well as the parts 6, are spring controlled.
