[Class 79 (iii).] A solid or tubular strut 24, for supporting a vehicle with one or more wheels off the ground, is suspended on a pin 13 on a short arm 23 which is pivoted about a pin 5 carried by a bracket &c. on an axle or frame part and normally brought by elastic means, such as a spring 7 around the pivot, to a downward position where it is held by a catch 8. With the arm 23 in this position, the strut 24 is brought down, after the vehicle has been raised by a jack or other means, and provides the necessary length to keep the wheel or wheels off the ground. When the catch 8 is withdrawn, the arm 23 yields allowing the vehicle to sink to the ground, the strut 24 relieved of the weight tilts, and the spring 7 brings the arm 23 back to the downward position where it is re-engaged by the catch 8 ready for subsequent use. The device may be arranged in a plane transverse to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and may be located one adjacent to each wheel or equidistantly between a pair of wheels. As shown, it is carried by a collar comprising hinged halves 3, 3a, clamped to an axle 1 by one or more bolts 2. One collar part 3 is formed with return flanges one of which carries the catch 8 pivoted on a pin 10 and formed with an extension 9, being pressed into action by a spring. 12 and disengaged by Bowden control means 22. Upon the opposite flange is formed a boss 20 forming an abutment for the free end of the strut 24 whereby, as the arm 23 rises, the strut is tilted to an intermediate position 141.
