Abstract
373,523. Respirators. DAVIS, R. H., 187, Westminster Bridge Road, London. Oct. 12, 1931, No. 28321. [Class 81 (ii).] In closed-circuit respiratory appliances wherein oxygen is delivered from a cylinder through a pipe 1 containing a valve 11 and thence through a right-angled connection pipe 2 and a reducing valve to the breathing bag, the reducing valve being byepassed by a pipe 8 controlled by a thumb-operated valve, loosening of the connection-piece 12 between the pipes 1, 2 is prevented by providing the casing 7 of the byepass valve with an extension piece 24 straddling the pipe 1 as at 25 or otherwise engaging the pipe 1 or a member rigidly secured thereto. The byepass valve comprises a pad 14 carried by one arm of a bell-crank lever 16 the other arm 18 of which is formed with a thumb-piece. The casing 7 has a lateral aperture 19 closed by a flexible diaphragm 22 immediately over the thumb-piece the whole forming a guard preventing accidental opening of the valve. A spring 20 within the casing maintains the valve-pad 14 normally in closing contact with the orifice of a jet 5 communicating with the pipe 2.
