Abstract
362,573. Respirators. KOCH, E., 2, Lambertstrasse, Essen, Germany. Sept. 30, 1930, No. 29334. [Class 81 (ii).] In a closed cycle respiration apparatus having either an oxygen cylinder, o r a chemical c a r t - ridge developing oxygen, a cut-off device is p r o - vided for the respiration c i r - cuit such that the circuit is opened when the oxygen supply is open, and closed when it is not. The device is intended to prevent use of the apparatus with the oxygen supply inadvertently left unopened. The valve is controlled by the oxygen pressure in the case of an oxygen cylinder, or by the starting means for the chemical cartridge or by the cut-off valve of an auxiliary oxygen flask if used. Figs. 1 and 3 show the examples of the device, the first being a valve h in the inhalation circuit b of the mask a, actuated by a Bourdon tube i which expands on opening the oxygen cylinder g. In the second, the valve h is connected to a piston in a cylinder b, and held closed by a spring. On opening the cylinder. the oxygen pressure overcomes the spring and opens the valve. The valve may also be operated mechanically by the opening means for the oxygen cylinder.
