Abstract
156,102. Heide, R. von der. Dec. 27, 1919, [Convention date]. Respirators. -- A respiratory appliance for personal use, in which the movements of the wall of the breathing bag itself reduce or regulate the pressure of the nutritive gas, rendering unnecessary a separate pressure-reducing or regulating valve, comprises a breathing bag a, Fig. 1, with short air-entry and exit pipes band c and a pipe o connected to a supply of nutritive gas. The nozzle e of the pipe o is adapted to be closed by the member f which is attached to the arm g of a lever which is pivoted at h, and of which the longer arm i extends into the interior of the breathing bag. As the pressure in the bag a falls, the wall m collapses and lessens the tension of the spring k, so that the lever moves and the nozzle e opens until sufficient gas has been introduced to raise the wall m again and to tension the spring k. An alternative construction comprises a breathing bag a, Fig. 2, constructed in the form of a cylindrical belows, the wall m of which acts on the closing member f against the action of the spring s through the straight rod p.
