Abstract
372,234. Rotary pumps. DAVIDSON, W. W., 737, West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, U.S.A. Nov. 5, 1931, No. 30727. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1930. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotary pump of the type shown in Fig. 4 has a rotary casing A and an eccentric rotor B connected by a thick driving link 13 and a number of thin fluid-impelling vanes C all of which may be pivoted to the ring A and slide in oscillating bearings 20, as shown, or may be pivoted to the rotor B and slide in bearings in the outer ring A. The outer ring A and end discs 3, 4 are supported at one end by a bearing 10 on a stationary shaft 1, and at the other end by a bearing pedestal 9. The rotor B is supported on an eccentric portion 11 of the shaft 1. Inlet and outlet ducts 23, 23<1> are connected to the working chamber 12 by holes 21 and cut-away portions 22 on the shaft portion 11. The pump may be driven by an electric motor coupled to the shaft 6, or in a modified arrangement a belt drives the outer casing A. In the latter case, inlet and outlet ducts may be situated in opposite ends of the shaft 1 both of which rest in bearings. Holes may be drilled through the driving link 13 to equalize pressures on each side of it. Grooves are provided on the sides of the vanes connecting the slots 18 to the chamber 12 to release trapped fluid.
