Abstract

960,080. Rotary vane machines. P. BARTOLINI-SALIMBENI. Feb 1, 1962 [Feb. 6, 1961], No. 3802/62. Heading F1F. A rotary sliding vane machine, e.g., a compressor, comprises a cylindrical casing 4, Fig. 1, closed at its ends by end plates 5, 6 and eccentrically mounting a rotor 10 formed with a driven shaft 10a and having an axial bore 10b. The casing is flanked by members 2, 3 having chambers 11, 13 in which fans or impellers 12, 14 fixed to the rotor rotate to accelerate the flow of fluid to the variable volume rotor chambers. Fluid admitted to the device from a lateral inlet passage 1 is passed to the rotor chambers in part by the fan 12 and an arcuate port 15, Fig. 5, and in part through the bore 10b, ports 10c, 10d the fan 14 and arcuate ports 16. The fan 14 may include an auxiliary fan 14a for cooling and lubricating. The vanes 22 are slidably mounted in non-radial grooves 21 and preferably fitted in pairs with a plate 23, Fig. 8 therebetween. Each vane is made in two portions 22a, 22b with a wedge 22c therebetween which is urged outwardly by centrifugal force to urge the portions 22a, 22b apart and into sealing contact with the end plates 5, 6. Sector pieces 26, Fig. 10, fitted in grooves 25 in the rotor between adjacent vanes 22 are located by pairs 27 and urged into sealing contact with the end plates 5, 6 by springs 29.
