Abstract
372,165. Feedwater supply systems for steam boilers. SULZER FR’RES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. July 14, 1931, No. 20197. Convention date, July 16, 1930. [Class 123 (ii).] In an instantaneous generator having a centrifugal feed pump 1, to prevent variations in the feed supply due to variations in the boiler pressure, the feed is supplied under constant pressure through a restriction 14 in the pump inlet pipe 3, and a break in the liquid column between the restriction and the pump is maintained by so designing the feed pump that the pressure difference between the two sides at the normal speed of operation is greater than the pressure difference between the maximum boiler pressure and the pressure of the supply to the restriction. The head of water in the supply tank 7, Fig. 1, is kept constant and the valve 14a regulating the restriction may be adjusted by a hand-wheel 16. The feed may be supplied under constant pressure by an auxiliary pump 17, Fig. 2, and the valve 14a regulating the restriction may be operated by the engine governor 23 in accordance with the speed of the main engine 24. A pipe 26 in front of the restriction returns surplus water to the supply pipe through a spring load valve 27.
