Abstract

371,663. Ships' logs. MœNSTER, P. L. and THELIN, O. A., Horten, Norway. June 8, 1931, No. 16710. [Class 97 (ii).] The propeller is mounted on a vertical axis in a tube adapted to project through the wall of the ship and the driving water is conveved over the top of the tube into a concentrically arranged discharge tube, the latter being closed at its upper end by a cover adapted to give smooth deflection of the water into the discharge tube. In the example shown the inlet tube 1 having an aperture 2 in the liquid stream is enclosed in the discharge tube 5. The latter is supported in a tube 7 in which the log may be raised or lowered through the bottom 8 of the ship by adjustment of the distance-pieces 11. The propeller 3 is supported in an enlarged part 4 of the tube I by the removable cover 14 for the discharge tube 5. The spindle 15 of the propeller operates through gearing a contactor 23 closing the circuit of the electromagnetic relay of the registering apparatus. For regulating the water stream passing up the tube 1, down the tube 5, and through the discharge opening 6, a throttle ring 17 attached to the cover 14 is adapted to co-operate with openings IS connecting the tube 1 with the tube 5. To compensate for irregularities in the water stream at high speeds automatic flap valves may be placed in front of the openings 18. The outlet 6 may be adjusted by raising or lowering of the log. A sluice valve 9 is provided.
