Abstract
511,485. Vacuum pans. FLETCHER & CO., Ltd., G., and MURRAY, C. W. Feb. 8, 1039, No. 4094. Addition to 469,231. [Class 32] The improvement in the vacuum pan described in the parent Specification comprises valve controlled outlet of greater area than the inlet and disposed at the base of the pan centrally below the inlet. In Fig. 1 the liquid to be evaporated is admitted to the pan 1 through a pipe 3 provided witn an annular opening formed bv an inverted cone-shaped member 2 at the base of which an additional inlet 4 may be provided. The outlet valve 5 engages by means of a packing 6 with a valve seating 7 and is withdrawn by means of a spindle 27 rotated by gearing 9, 10 operated by a shaft 11. In Fig. 2 the outlet valve 12 is disposed within the pan and its upper surface co-operates with the lower edge of a bell 14 attached thereto to form the annular inlet opening, the bell 14 having an extension 15, which slides within the inlet pipe 16 when the valve is opened. In Fig. 3 an annular inlet duct 17 is provided with its opening above the valve seating 18, the liquid flowing first into a recess 20 formed by the lip 21 of the valve 19 and then downwardly and outwardly over the bottom of.the pan.
