Abstract

541,776. Cooking-apparatus. OEY, T. T. Nov. 24, 1939, No. 30682. [Class 28 (i)] The completion of cooking in a steam-cooker is indicated by an alarm operated by the fall of level of liquid to a particular position due to evaporation. In one form, the cooker consists of a container 1 adapted to be placed over a source of heat and provided with a perforated ring 20 on which one or more cooking pans 5 are mounted, water being placed in the lower part of the container to produce steam for cooking. When the level of the water falls sufficiently to uncover an opening 8 in a detachable member 11, steam passes into a passage 10 and sounds a whistle 14. The lid 2 of the container is provided with a restricted outlet for steam, with or without a stop-cock &c. for adjustment. The container 1 may be provided on one side with a suspended device 16 co-acting with indicating parts to show when the cooker is in the correct upright position. In modifications, the lower end of the pipe 10 leading to the whistle terminates in a recess or well in the centre of the bottom of the container. The alarm pipe 10 may be slidably adjustable in a cylinder 9 to vary the cooking time. and several alarm pipes may be provided to indicate the completion of cooking of different foods.
