Abstract

278,026. Smith, C. C. March 31, 1926. Funnels.-A funnel for use in filling vessels with liquid comprises a mouth 1 having a stem 2 extended within the mouth at 3 and enclosing a float 4 connected to an indicator 5. The axis of the mouth 1 is obliquely disposed to the stem 2, so that the extension 3 is close to or flush with the wall of the mouth, and is out of the way of a supplying vessel. Openings 9 allow liquid to pass into the stem 2, and a baffle 10 is provided above the float and below the discharge openings 11. The lower end of the stem 2 is closed by a disc 12 provided with a drain-hole 13, and apertures 14 are provided in the float chamber to facilitate the entry o fliquid thereto. An adjustable support 7 is provided around the stem for varying the height at which the indicator becomes visible. The support 7 comprises a slit conical collar 15 and co-operating lock-nut 16 which compresses it on to the stem 2 at the desired position. In a modification, the mouth has an inwardly-curved flange at its edge to prevent splashing and the holes 9 are replaced by a gauze strainer. The support proper comprises a dished triangular plate 17. The float may be of cork or of hollow or inverted cup formation and of any suitable material.
