Fixed-chamber apparatus.-The liquid 18, such as petrol for mechanical lighters, is contained in an outer cylindrical chamber communicating through apertures 16 with an inner chamber, and is supported on a volume of heavier liquid 17. It is delivered through a passage 22 and nozzle 24 controlled by a needle-valve 25, by a displacing member or float 14 supported by the liquid in the inner chamber. The float has a container 13 into which coins are dropped through a slot 12 in a cap 3 so that a quantity of liquid, equivalent to the weight of a coin inserted, is displaced. The bottom of the container 13 is lined with rubber, felt, &c. to deaden noise. The float may be provided with cork discs 31 to vary its buoyancy, and it has a depending tube 32 fitting over an upstanding pin 33 to maintain it in a central position. A filling plug 21 is provided in the top 20 of the annular chamber containing the petrol, a vent pipe being provided. The vent pipe may be dispensed with if the valve 25 is an easy fit. The cap 3 is at ached to the apparatus by a screw joint 4 or a bayonet joint, and is secured by a lock 5. A drip tray 27 with absorbent material is provided under the nozzle 24. The container 13 may be of conical shape to guide coins to a central position and be formed with a flange to rest on the rim of the float. The conical portion may be made of cloth.
