Abstract

485,261. Siphon-discharge water-waste-preventers. KOLARIK, M. Sept. 3, 1937, No. 24134. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1936. [Class 26] In a water-waste-preventer, a stationary bell 4 has an aperture at the top 5 closed by the upper wall of a re-entrant part 9 of a vessel 8 vertically movable upon the bell, the side-walls of the part being provided with apertures 12 normally closed bv the bell. When the vessel 8 is lifted, the apertures 12 and 5 are opened and water passes through the siphon, the action of which is thus initiated and is continued, with the help of apertures 11 in the lower part of the bell, until the water level in the vessel falls below the edge of a sleeve 15 upon a hood 14 carried by the part 9. The amount of the flush may be varied by adjusting the position of the sleeve 15 and also by lowering or maintaining raised the vessel. In the raised position, the vessel is in communication with the tank through apertures 13 and passages 21, 22 in the wall of the bell, escape of water from the vessel being prevented while the bell is being raised by the fact that the apertures and the passages 22 do not register. A valve 16 in the lowered position of the vessel serves to vent the space between the walls 14 and 9, being kept off its seat by the engagement of its stem 17 with a member 19, and being allowed to fall when the vessel is raised. The member 19 also serves to prevent rotation of the vessel.
