Abstract
370,766. Projectile fuzes. SOC. ANON. ARTURO JUNGHANS FABRICA D'OROLOGERIA, Venice, Italy. July 8, 1931, No. 19684. Convention date, Aug. 15, 1930. [Class 9 (i).] Relates to clockwork time fuzes of the kind in which the clockwork is released by an inertia bolt at the start, and after the predetermined time releases a centrifugal member which in turn releases a centrifugal striker. According to the invention, an additional safety device is provided which is operated by the clockwork and releases the centrifugal striker after the projectile has travelled a certain distance. The inertia bolt 1, Fig. 2, on setting back at the start, releases a pin k<2> on the spindle k of a lever k<1> which then bears by centrifugal force against the periphery of the time disc m, Fig. 3, until at the appointed time it enters the notch m<1> in the disc. This causes the spindle k to release a centrifugal lever i<1>, the spindle i of which in turn releases a second centrifugal lever h, Fig. 5, which releases a radially-movable centrifugal striker g, firing the fuze. The additional safety is provided by an eccentric o<l>, which locks the striker until it is driven round sufficiently by the clockwork. The drive from the clockwork is transmitted to a pinion on the spindle o of the eccentric, which pinion is not provided with a full ring of teeth, so that when the eccentric unlocks the striker the pinion goes out of mesh and the eccentric is held in the unlocking position by centrifugal force. The centrifugal striker, when locked, is restrained from movement by a spring washer p.
