Abstract

464,556. Projectile fuzes. JUNGHANS, H. July 28, 1936, No. 20879. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to directaction percussion fuzes of the kind in which centrifugal safety jaws are provided for the striker and centrifugally operated clockwork mechanism delays the arming of the fuze. According to the invention, a centrifugally operated wheel mechanism controls a rotatable slotted annular casing co-operating with abutments on the centrifugal jaws so as to free these jaws after a given delay. In the form shown, a collar d, Fig. 1, on the striker c is locked by centrifugal jaws e<1> ... e<4>, Fig. 4, which are interlocked in known manner to swing out one after another. The jaw, which is to be the first to swing out, is provided with an abutment pin l, which bears against the inner wall of an annular casing k in one with a pinion i adapted to be rotated by a centrifugal toothed sector g, h, Fig. 3, when this is released by the set back of a spring catch n, n<1> by inertia when the projectile is discharged. The rotation of the casing is delayed by a centrifugal oscillation pawl o co-operating with teeth k<1> around the casing. After a given time, a slot m in the casing comes opposite the pin l and allows this to escape, whereupon the centrifugal jaws swing out and unlock the striker.
