Abstract
396,171. Projectile fuzes. JUNGHANS, H., Sulgen, near Schramberg, Germany. April 11, 1932, No. 10304. [Class 9 (i). A combined percussion and clockwork fuze for an antiaircraft projectile is made with the firing-pin of the percussion fuze in the longitudinal axis of the projectile and the balance for the clockwork fuze pivotally mounted about the aforesaid firing-pin or about a bush through which said firing-pin is guided. In Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the balance 13 is pivoted about a central bush 15 having a comparatively large diameter causing friction prolonging the period of oscillation, which may be further prolonged by the addition of a detachable weight 12. The escapement wheel 11 of the balance is driven through gearing by a centrifugal segment 7 formed with a nose 6 which until the appointed time holds up the shoulder 5 of a spring striker 3 arranged at the side of the central percussion striker 1. In a modification the spring striker 3 is replaced by a spring plunger at the side of or around the percussion striker and adapted to operate the percussion striker by striking a flange on the same ; this plunger is held up by a bevelled nose of a lever interlocked with the centrifugal driving segment of the clockwork. The percussion striker may be locked by a lever, which is swung out at the beginning of the operation of the clockwork, itself released by an inertia bolt or by a centrifugal spring lock 14. Fig. 1a shows a modified striker 3 mounted in conical bearings 37, 38 so that centrifugal force may help the action of the spring on the striker when this is released by the clockwork.
