368,600. Straight tube heat exchangers; cooling gases. TRIGGS, W.W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ingersoll-Rand Co. ; 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 16, 1931, No. 14557. [Classes 29 and 64 (iii).] In a heat exchanger, particularly for cooling air in compressors, comprising a casing B with baffles K supporting liquid-conveying tubes C which pass through apertures in the baffles, separate apertures are provided in the baffles for each tube so as to divert a part of the fluid flowing through the casing from inlet J to outlet Q and inject it laterally into the main stream to agitate it. A separator 0, integral with the head E and consisting of ribs P and a bridge R bearing ribs T, S removes moisture from the cooled fluid before, it leaves by outlet Q. To allow for thermal expansion, a tube plate W is made movable. The head Z provided for plate W has a thin annular flange e to form a chamber for the cooling liquid, and the securing bolts are within this flange so that the cooling tubes C can be disposed at points close to the casing.
