Abstract
504,762. Cooling air ; separating liquid particles from air. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and PICKSTONE, M. T. Nov. 20, 1937, No. 31997. [Classes 29 and 123 (iii)] Compressed air is cooled and dried in two stages, comprising in the first stage heat exchange with the air leaving the second stage cooler, where water or other cooling medium is employed. Means for intercepting oil &c. is provided at the end of the first stage and similar means for separating condensed moisture is provided in the second stage, the direction of the air flow being reversed at the intercepting means. Compressed air enters a casing 1 at inlet 3 and flows downwards through small tubes 7, and its direction is reversed at region 12 where oil &c. is intercepted by a wire brush 120 and led off at 13. The air rises through a central conduit 10 and passes through a bend 14 to a second cooler comprising tubes 15 leading to a coned member 19 and tube 19a and surrounded by water flowing upwards in the casing 2. The direction of the air flow is again reversed in region 22 and moisture grit &c. is intercepted by a wire brush 220 and scrubbing means 20 such as a roll of expanded metal, leadbrass wool &c. The air passes by branch 21 to casing 1 and flows around tubes 7, 10 to outlet 4. The two coolers may be arranged concentrically. The tubes may be mounted in the tube plates in the manner described in Specification 504,764.
