[Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v).] In a hand or power operated cam controller, the cam members 1, Fig. 1, and the endplates in which the spindles carrying the cams, and the fixed and movable contacts 8, 9 are mounted, are formed as stampings or pressings. When a spindle 7 is rotated, a cam 3 acts on a roller carried by a stamped or pressed lever 13, to separate contacts 8, 9 against the action of a spring 21. In a modification, Fig. 3, the lever 13 is in two parts, one part which carries the cam roller 15 being pivoted to a clamp member 20 at 23, and the other which carries the movable contact 9, being pivoted on the roller carrying part at 22. Thus when the cam spindle 7 is rotated, the roller carrying part rotates slightly about its pivot 23, and in moving the pivot 22, causes a rubbing and cleaning action between the contacts 8, 9. Upon further rotation of the spindle 7, both parts of the lever 13 move together against the action of a spring 21, to separate the contacts 8, 9. A number of cams, and corresponding switch contacts assembled to form the complete controller, are mounted in a pressed casing, having a removable cover with pressed steel handles spot welded thereto. A blow-out coil, and separating barriers may be fitted at the contacts.
